Role overview

As an Entertainment Host, you are responsible for delivering engaging onboard and shore-based activities, creating memorable guest experiences, and supporting the Cruise Director in the daily entertainment and excursion programme.

You act as a host, presenter, and ambassador of the onboard experience, ensuring guests feel welcomed, informed, and entertained throughout their journey.

Requirements / Candidate profile

  • EU passport
  • Experience in entertainment, animation, hospitality, or cruise ship environment
  • Strong spoken and written English is always required
  • Depending on the cruise line, however, the German language is highly preferred and often required as the main working language onboard, and it significantly increases job opportunities.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
  • Strong problem-solving abilities
  • Stress-resistant and able to perform in a dynamic environment
  • Team-oriented with a multicultural mindset
  • Outgoing, friendly, and confident personality
  • Guest-focused and professional attitude at all times
  • Musical or performing skills are an advantage/ For a duo host, musical skills are a must.
  • DJ skills for evening entertainment are considered a strong asset and, depending on the cruise line, may be required as an essential skill

Key responsibilities 

 Guest experience & hosting

  • Provide friendly and professional service to all guests
  • Welcome guests during embarkation and support smooth arrival procedures
  • Act as a contact point for guest questions and onboard assistance
  • Support embarkation, disembarkation, transfers, and logistics (including taxis and airport coordination)
  • Deliver presentations such as welcome briefings, port talks, and scenic introductions

Onboard entertainment & activities

  • Host daytime activities such as quizzes, games, sports activities, and themed events
  • Organize and lead activities including golf putting, cornhole, tournaments, and trivia nights
  • Conduct evening entertainment such as game shows, discos, themed evenings, and interactive events
  • Support or deliver fitness and wellbeing activities when required
  • Occasionally perform personal artistic or musical contributions, if applicable – depending on the cruise line

Shore excursions & destination support

  • Support the organization and execution of shore excursions and offboard activities
  • Join selected excursions to ensure guest satisfaction and smooth operations
  • Assist in promoting excursion programmes to enhance guest engagement
  • Support guest logistics during transfers and travel arrangements
  • Contribute to destination storytelling and onboard presentations

Technical & operational support

  • Prepare and operate entertainment equipment such as sound systems, microphones, and background music
  • Support setup for events including gala dinners, crew activities, and onboard presentations
  • Assist guest entertainers, lecturers, and artists with technical and logistical needs
  • Maintain and check entertainment equipment

Communication & reporting

  • Coordinate daily activity flow and support the Cruise Director with programme delivery
  • Share guest feedback, attendance, and activity summaries
  • Contribute to daily and weekly reports
  • Ensure smooth communication within the entertainment team and with other departments

Additional/supporting duties

  • Support other departments when required, depending on operational needs
  • Assist or substitute wellness and activity sessions if needed
  • Participate in all safety drills and follow onboard safety procedures as instructed by the Captain
  • Perform other reasonable duties assigned by supervisors
